How to Optimize Your Internet Connection to Get 100 % Bandwidth

Most of Internet connections are working below capacity. A simple bandwidth test would reveal that your own Internet connection is working well below its capacity. some times below 60% of the bandwidth is utilized. Below are some of the tricks I have collected that may help you get most juice out of your internet connection.

Increase bandwidth by tweaking QoS in Windows XP Pro

The following tweak applies only to Windows XP Professional edition. The default system behavior is that all 100% bandwidth is available, however, if there is a running application that indicates to the OS it needs to send high priority/real time data, then as long as it has the socket open, Windows XP will restrict â€Å“best effort” traffic to 80% of the bandwidth so that high priority traffic can be accommodated. Basically, applications can make this request to the operating system for QoS support using the QoS application programming interfaces (APIs) in Windows and this only applies if a specific app is requesting QoS.
If you’d like to change how much bandwidth is reserved for QoS (the default is 20% of the total bandwidth), do the following:

  • Make sure you’re logged in as “Administrator” (not just any account with admin privileges).
  • Navigate to START>Run and type: gpedit.msc
  • Navigate to Local Computer Policy > Administrative Templates > Network > QOS Packet Scheduler
  • In the right window, double-click the limit reservable bandwidth setting
  • On the setting tab, check the enabled setting.
  • Where it says “Bandwidth limit %”, change it to read 0 (or whatever percentage you want to reserve for high priority QoS data)
  • Click OK, close gpedit.msc
  • Under START > My Computer > My Network Connections > View Network Connections, right-click on your connection and under Properties (where it lists your protocols), make sure QOS Packet Scheduler is enabled.

Host Name Resolution Priority Tweak Windows 2k/XP

The tweak desribed below helps boost priority for DNS & hostname resolution in general. What this means is, it helps web pages load faster, and has negligible effect on downloads (not counting the couple of ms gain with the host resolution at connect-time). Applying this tweak assumes some proficiency in editing the Windows Registry using Regedit (Start > Run > type: regedit). As always, backup your Registry before making any changes so you can revert to the previous state if you don’t like the results.
First, open the Windows Registry using Regedit, and (after backing up) navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\ServiceProvider
Note the following lines (all hex dwords):
    Class = 008 (8) – indicates that TCP/IP is a name service provider, don’t change. LocalPriority = 1f3 (499) – local names cache HostsPriority = 1f4 (500) – the HOSTS file DnsPriority = 7d0 (2000) – DNS NetbtPriority = 7d1 (2001) – NetBT name-resolution, including WINS
What we’re aiming to do is increase the priority of the last 4 settings, while keeping their order. The valid range is from -32768 to +32767 and lower numbers mean higher priority compared to other services. What we’re aiming at is lower numbers without going to extremes, something like what’s shown below should work well:

Wi-Fi Hack

Wi-Fi systems are quite prone to getting hacked, if proper security measures are no taken and most of the time people are lazy with the security configurations, thus creating potential risk factors for their networks. It takes some amount of time and patience to configure Wi-Fi network securities, however, it does pay off in the end. Here are a few tips that if implemented, you could protect yourself against Wi-Fi hack.
wi-fi-security-02
Create Administrator Passwords: Wi-Fi networks use special equipments to be set up and web pages are made that enables users to login to their networks, but these webpages provide default login names, which is usually known by hackers, thus, it is very important that you change the administrator words and passwords as soon as you get access to the network.
WPA/WEP Encryption: Wi-Fi equipments are usually encrypted and the encryption helps the system to be protected and it cannot be read by humans.
Therefore it is important that strong encryption technology be used, and when a lowest common denominator is chosen all the devices on the network starts sharing the same encryption settings, thus protecting the network. Do not make the mistake of keeping the encryption in off state.
Making a New SSID: All access points use their own specified network names, normally called as the SSID set. One of the main ways to protect your network is to change the default SSID as the default name is known by many people and thus the system seems to be vulnerable to being attacked. If the SSID is not changed, the devices on the network could be in danger of being accessed.
MAC Address Filtering: Wi-Fi gadgets have a MAC address to them which is actually the physical address and this address is tracked by all access points and routers. Some products provide the benefit of giving a key to an owner that protects their devices and allows only the devices connected by those MAC addresses to be used. However MAC addresses can be faked very easily, so do not depend on them entirely.
Enable Firewalls: Firewalls are quite necessary for routers and most of them have it built in. Always make sure that the firewalls are enabled. For more safety you can also have firewall programs that provide extra connection to the computers.
Turn Networks Off When Not In Use: When you do not the network for a long time, ensure that it is switched off as that will prevent hackers from attacking the system when least expected. Do this specially in the case when you go for a vacation or will not be accessing the devices for a long time to come.

Find Where Are Your Photos on Internet?

Internet is a place where anybody and anything can turn into scam and fraud anytime. One of the most common problems that internet users face often is the lack of privacy. You can’t rely on any service completely. Your data can be stolen, hacked or leaked out anytime. That’s because a number of programmers are doing “cheat business” on internet and selling your information including videos and photos without your knowledge.

Photos On Internet:

You can hide your photos from the unwanted and stranger contacts on your profile but you can’t hide it from the eyes of internet players. One of the best activities is to watermark your photos to prevent them to be stolen. You can also check your photos if they are available anywhere else on internet and are being without your permission. Following are the few possible ways to find out your photos on internet.

internet photos

Reverse Image Search:

Let suppose you have uploaded your photos on any photo sharing website and you want to check if anyone has stolen it or using it without your knowledge.
You can find out your photos by a method called “reverse image search”. In this method, a smart search engine search the identical content containing photos within the image itself instead of focusing on file names or meta data that can be changed easily.
Similar photos
This search system might sounds like a sci-fiction movie feature and in reality it is pretty much closer to it. There is a website, Tin Eye.com where you can carry out reverse image search practice.  Upload an image from your computer or indicate the site where you have uploaded your photo. The search system of Tin Eye will give you a list of sites where a copy of your photo exists. The drawback of Tin Eye is that it often only identifies photos having similar content and it does not identify the exact content. Another drawback of Tin Eye is that its data does not work for all images uploaded on internet so if you don’t get the copy of your photo, then it doesn’t mean that your photo isn’t being used anywhere else.

Search for Similar Photos:

You can also find out your photos by searching for similar photos. You can use “Bing” search engine to find similar photos and get the list of re-used photos from it easily. Use the image search option on Bing and check the results. Select your interest of image and then click on show similar images. A complete list of re-used and similar photos will be opened before you.
This way is not flawless and like other ways it also has some flaws. You have to start your image search by giving a right term to Bing and it not guarantees you an accurate result.
In the long and short, there are few methods available on internet by which you can search your photo and find out if they are being used or not. Remember that you can’t get accurate results and the best way to keep your photos is not to upload them on internet.

How To Make Your Blog Successful

Blogging is now an integral mode of communication in the online world. People not only interact with each other, but also share views, experiences, news, stories and many other such things. Now, not only is blogging a mode of communication, it can also be used as a source to earn money albeit the hard way. In this digital age, with the internet being a giant world, getting your blog to be on the top searches as well as getting it to earn money is not such an  easy job.
Just like every real life business, there has to be lots of hard work, patience, time and resource investment, networks to be created, dedication and determination required. When you have all these with the right stroke of luck, you may get to be earning quite an amount. However, it must not be taken as a light job, because it’s very hard to build viewership and it’s equally hard to maintain those readers. To get you started, here are a few points that you could take into consideration for a successful, money earning blog.

1). A Good Plan

A blog, like a business strategy needs a good plan. You need to figure out, draw out what you would want to share or want people to read about. Look up online market trends and catch that topic that is needed. There are thousands of blogs out there, but what is that one factor that could make your blog stand out? After the initial thought, you need to know the processes of blogging, for example, the domain required, the SEO words required, the keywords, internal how to of a blog and many other such aspects.

2). Get A Good Domain Name

Companies have unique names that can give them the right identification needed. Same is with a blog.
If you have your own domain name for example, www.ixibo.com then you’re surely on the right track, but setting up a blog using other domains such as blogpost.com or such doesn’t really set you on track. It takes a lot of hardwork to get these blogs up on Google searches.

3). SEO Knowledge

Search Engine Optimization is the process of obtaining keywords that if used will bring the particular article on to top Google searches. It’s very critical that a blogger know what the keywords are and bring it to the best use. You can have an online keyword academy that would require a monthly membership fee and would help you with the needed keywords.

4). Hard Work

When a blog is set up, you need to constantly update and maintain it. A successful blogger is one who posts articles on a daily basis without missing a day. Some people even work to the limit of putting up 20, 30 posts a day. It’s all the hard work that actually counts and it takes years of experience to one day generate money from your blog.

5). Advertisement and Promotion

Whatever you write, it has to be published and promoted. Without the promotion, you will never be able to generate traffic. With a blog setting up a Google Adsense account is also a very important way to earn money.
These steps are just the very basic ways of being able to generate any amount of income from the blog. Technical details are much more in a wide scope and will be talked about later on.

Facebook Privacy Tips

Facebook has come a long way since its birth and has corrected all the flaws which were found at first. However, till today one thing which has faced the highest criticism from the users of Facebook is about it’s privacy laws. Privacy of the information which users put on their profiles is of immense importance and need’s to be kept highly confidential. But due to involvement by third parties who work with Facebook, they were allowed to access the information posted by users which is against the laws of privacy. Law states that if any information is being provided by an individual to another company then it should remain confidential.
facebook privacy tips
Individuals put up their personal information on their profiles to share it with their friends and family, however if that information is being accessed by someone else who is not in their friends list then that is a major point of concern. The owner of facebook stated that all privacy settings are now in the hands of the users and they can choose which information should be displayed to the public and which needs to kept private.
If any third party tries to access their personal information then they would target them as their potential customerswhich the Facebook user’s might not prefer. It is the feeling of trust which allows users to put their information on Facebook and if that trust is broken then users would not prefer using Facebook.

Ways Of Keeping Information Private

1. Basic privacy settings

These are setting which are initially kept at default by Facebook and could be changed under the privacy option tab. It allows you to set the privacy level of who can view your information which includes everyone, friendsof friends or friends only. If you select the last option then yourinformation would only be viewed by your friends who you have allowed and accepted to be in your friends list. This means that they would be allowed to view your personal information, your entire profile including your photos and videos also.

2. Third-party applications

Ever since third party’s have started to market their product on facebook, it has become a major controversy. When you accept an application, it asks you for a few option and if you click on the option which would allow them to use and view your information then that would entirely be your decision. But if you do not wish to share any information then you could unclick the box in your privacy settings which would disable third parties from viewing or accessing your information.

3. Block list

This is the option which allows you to enter the people or applications which you would want to block completely from contacting you or viewing you on Facebook. This list could be found under the privacy option tab. If you enter the name of that concerned person or application, then they would be blocked and won’t be able to find you any further on facebook.

Google URL Shortener

Goo.gl, the Google URL shortener, is counted as the most stablest, shortest and  fastest URL shortener introduced by Google last December. It originated in competition withGoogle’s Bit.ly, and can shorten any  link on the web.
Though there are many URL shorteners on the web available with plenty of features, but the Goo.gl appears to be most reliable and fastest URL shortener on web. People when choose Goo.gl to use, know that it is worth working, and it will definitely work in great way. As the Goo.gl provides features as well. When you shorten any URL with Goo.gl,  the shortened URL is safe from all malwares and viruses that can affect your URL content. The basic quality of Goo.gl is mainly based on three objectives.
google-url-shortener-screen

Security:

Goo.gl shortens the links under strong automated security detection used as behind the scenes of Gmail.

Stability:

The Goo.gl URL shortener has been always processed since its origination to make it most reliable, stablest and fastest URL shortener.

Speed:

Goo.gl URL shortener has caught up double the speed in last nine months.
Apart from its built in characteristics to make it unique and most usable URL shortener, Google has made Goo.gl stapled with other exciting features as well. Unlike any other URL shortener, Google has simplified the use of Goo.gl. You can check the list of all the URLs that you have shortened using Goo.gl when you sign in to your Google account. You can check the ‘details’ in the details options of any particular shortened URL which includes the top referrers, visitors profiles, real-time analytics data, public and the traffic in that current time.
Hmm,  no API is mended till now. But, Goo.gl is accessible through extensions for Firefox and Google Chrome. An API is expected lately from Google that can let you shorten URLs, expand them, and allows you to view all analytic directly from your own application.
Goo.gl URL shortener makes it easy to share links. It separates the important URLs from the common URLs that are less use.  Recently,Twitter also followed up by building its URL shortener and Facebook is testing one for its creation behind the screen. Though there are so many competitors shattered through out the web, Bit.ly was the one who picked up the race and is found to have widest traction among all of them.
