6. Mass Effect 3

According to the project director Casey Hudson Mass Effect 3 is in its early stages of development. However, it has been confirmed that game is to be announced by late 2011. Casey Hudson latest interview with MTV revealed certain details about the upcoming Mass effect 3. The game is supposed to have an epic conclusion, which is overwhelming. Hudson also told MTV that there are about 1000 variables that are already lined up for variations in the new chapter. After quantifying the variables in the story line, Hudson has exaggerated the pre release hype for the game. Putting a huge divergence in the final chapter of trilogy would be a remarkable thing to do, from which we can sense more twist in the upcoming game.

So far revealed, the game is expected to have Richer RPG features, more combat options and more complex enemies. The developers seriously need to work at RPG features and combats as they weren’t very appealing in the ME2. We can expect that ME3 to be an excellent role playing experience, something that was quite missing in the Mass Effect 2.

7. Max Payne 3

Rock star games, which are famous for the max Payne, midnight club and grand theft auto are going to release Max Payne 3 in 2011. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

Assassin's Creed II is definitely one of my favourite games of the last 12 months. It was a meaty gaming meal that took several steps towards fulfilling the promise of the original, with new mechanics, more variety in gameplay, and an alluring new setting: renaissance Italy. It was a big leap, in other words: a worthy sequel in all regards.

Brotherhood, on the other hand, will have a slightly harder time proving its worth. Rather than moving to a new time period, it continues directly on from the events of Assassin's Creed II, only with the action shifting almost entirely to Rome. Like previous titles, there's also a modern-day component. The game is once again framed by the on-going battle between the Templars and Assassins, and players are actually assuming the role of Desmond, who lives in the present day and is able to experience the memories of his ancestor Ezio using a device called the animus. The game cuts between the two time periods but the bulk of the gameplay occurs in renaissance Rome.

Watch our video review.

Ubisoft Montreal has stressed that Brotherhood has a number of innovations and evolutions designed to keep the experience fresh, and we can certainly tell you that there's easily as much content here as in Assassin's Creed II, but will it be enough to really help this title distinguish itself from last year's stellar outing? Let's find out.

After confronting Rodrigo Borgia and having his mind blown far beneath the Vatican at the end of Assassin's Creed II (and no, that's not a euphemism), the story picks up with Ezio ready for some well-earned R&R. It's not to be. Cesare Borgia – Rodrigo Borgia's son – is ticked off, and mounts a full scale attack on the assassins. The villa in Monteriggioni is destroyed and Ezio loses everything. Yes, after 20+ hours working towards all that bad-ass armour and weaponry, it's lost in a moment and players must begin again. Such is the fickle nature of videogames.

In any case, Ezio travels to Rome determined to take his revenge against Cesare. The city is divided into 12 districts, each of which is overseen by a Borgia tower, representing the Borgia's control of the area. As long as the tower stands, soldiers are out in force, shops remain closed and the people oppressed. Assassinate the tower's Captain and burn it to the ground, however, and the area will open up for business. Ezio is then able to renovate blacksmiths, banks, stables and more, and these all add to his income, in much the same way renovating Monteriggioni did in the last game. The more shops that are open, the more items will be available and perks Ezio will get. For instance, the more tailors you have, the more pouches for carrying knives and other items will be available, whereas the more banks are open the more money Ezio can store before his account is full. Each defeated tower also opens up an assassin apprentice slot, but more on that later.

Add caption

Rome is impressively varied, from bustling city streets to citadels, ancient ruins and landmarks like the Coliseum.
It's important to note that while the Borgia towers are a key element of the game's structure, they're not actually central to taking down Cesare. You can actually finish Brotherhood without destroying all the towers. Instead, they're about earning income, unlocking items, gaining apprentice assassins and reducing the presence of Borgia guards across the city. By destroying a tower, players can make missions in that region easier for themselves by ensuring there'll be less guards around. How to get to each Captain? Well, that's up to you. Each tower is surrounded by a compound where the guards are on high alert, so it's up to players to work out the best path to the Captain. Easier compounds allow astute players to clinically execute the Captain with little-to-no danger, while more difficult ones will inevitably result in a huge confrontation, or have a more difficult path to the end goal.

As fans of open-world games would expect, a lot of the player's time will be occupied with missions and activities that don't necessarily advance the plot. It's easy to get sidetracked for hours finding treasure chests, taking on assassination contracts, doing missions for the various guilds or trying to level up your relationship with them, exploring the world or climbing landmarks like the Coliseum. Subterranean environments return too, in the guise of Sons of Romulus missions. These make for a nice change of pace, as the focus is very much on movement puzzles over combat.
Leonardo da Vinci is back as an ally too, and once again provides weapons for Ezio. Turns out he's also been pressured into creating war machines for Cesare, so it's up to Ezio to destroy the plans and prototypes. These see you wielding a chain gun mounted to a horse and cart, piloting a boat with a naval cannon, gliding about in Leo's paraglider – modified to fire bombs, and manning a renaissance-era tank. They're not actually that exciting, but at least inject a little variety into the gameplay.

And honestly? That's something Brotherhood needs. The gameplay on offer here is solid, but by and large the bulk of the missions are pretty similar in nature to those we've already experienced in depth in Assassin's Creed II. It really feels like treading the same old ground, without great improvements. The missions where Ezio must tail a target are still frustrating, for instance, thanks to the small sweet spot at which the player must stay away in order to follow - but not alert – his target.

You know Ezio means business - he has a goatee now.
There are three major changes that try to switch things up: the assassins' guild, the tweaks to combat and the ability to ride your horse anywhere. Recruiting assassins who can be called upon with the press of a button is obviously the big one, and it works very much as advertised. With each Borgia tower destroyed a new slot opens up, allowing Ezio to rescue and recruit an ordinary citizen of Rome. Calling on an assassin is as simple as targeting an enemy and hitting L1/Left trigger on PS3/360 respectively. Depending on the location and the level of your assassin, he or she might run or ride up to the target, or drop down from above. It's cool to watch, and once you have six assassins you have three groups that can be called, with a cool-down time of a few minutes for each.

Assassins gain experience through combat, but they can also be sent off to complete contracts around Europe. The greater the difficulty of a mission, the higher the XP and cash reward, and players prepared to gamble can quickly level up their assassins by assigning them difficult contracts with a lower chance of success. These missions only take five to ten minutes each and the interface is easy to use. With each level gained, you can boost either armour or weaponry, and as assassins rise through the ranks, they'll also unlock more advanced options, such as the ability to use smoke bombs. As a side note, your assassin recruits can die, but you'll likely only lose a couple in the entirety of the game.

Championship Manager 2010

On yesterday's episode of The HotSpot, we got into a discussion about comments made by EA Sports president Peter Moore regarding the future of microtransactions in the publisher's games. Even before Moore's comments, the writing had been on the wall for a while now: from Madden and NCAA Football 10 to the upcoming Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online for PC, the model of pay for play is quickly changing for sports fans.

Now Eidos is experimenting as well. Perhaps borrowing a page from Radiohead, the publisher has announced that its latest soccer management game, Championship Manager 10 will be available for a price determined by each individual player. According to the GameSpot UK blog, the game can be pre-ordered ahead of its September 11 release date for as little as 1p, though a £2.50 will be added to the transcation, making the minimum total for the game £2.51. After that, players will have to pay £5 for optional in-season updates. This pay-what-you-like deal is available only for pre-orders--once the game is released, the game will be available for its full retail price of £29.99.

Championship Manager 10 will be just the latest sports gaming pricing experiment. In addition to EA's ubiquitous microtransactions, we've also seen a subscription-based service for Eidos' direct competitor in the soccer management genre, the profoundly addictive Football Manager Live. And while I have little doubt that this price scheme will entice some new fans into coming back to the ChampMan fold--the real test of the challenge won't be its experimental pricing, but rather if developer Beautiful Games Studios can bring the series back to its former glory.

Gaming profits

The advantage to play the game turned out to be felt by fighter pilots to people suffering from amblyopia, or those in which one senses is not as good as his other eye. From the study, visual ability can be improved by playing certain games.

From research, it turns out the game recently released the Call of Duty: BlackOps and Halo: Reach requirements qualify as a game that is very beneficial for the eyes.

"Game management action to improve the visual abilities, in particular attention to certain objects that can membantuk someone to gokus of relevant visual information," said Bjorn Hubert-Wallander, a researcher Wires Cognitive Science, as quoted by Bright Side of News, 22 November 2010.

Visual attention, Wallander says, is essential to prevent sensory overload, because the brain continually faced with excessive visual information.

Actually, humans already have the ability to ignore irrelevant input. Examples of information views while driving a vehicle, or the faces of the unknown when the eyes do a search against a set of friends in the crowd.

"Visual attention is a mechanism that allows people to select relevant visual information and eliminate information that is not needed," Wallander said. "Enhancing these capabilities can be useful in the field of military training, education, and a few other things related to visual problems,"

In the study, researchers gathered a group of volunteers to do things related to visual attention. As a result, the volunteers who are gamers always managed to perform their duties better than those who do not play games.

However, not all video games can be useful. Only games that require quick response to visual information when the user must divide their attention was the one who can improve visual attention.

"The gameplay is fast and full of action has the potential to improve the ability of participants,"
"These games require players to aim and shoot accurately at the screen while continuing to track other enemy in the fast-moving objects,"

Previously, similar studies also prove that playing first person shooter games like Unreal Tournament 2004 and Call of Duty 2 is more beneficial to the eye compared with The Sims 2.

Apparently Tetris Help Eliminate Bad Memories

You remember the Block stacking game, Tetris? Apparently, according to research by scientists from Oxford University, this game has another benefit that is able to reduce the bad memories.
The research team found, to play Tetris after the traumatic event can reduce the bad memories. When compared with other games that play Pub Quiz Machine 2000, a game based on the words, the effect of trauma even worse.
In experiments on healthy volunteers, the research team showed gruesome images of a number of sources, including video ads depicting the dangers of drunk driving in conditions.
After waiting for 30 minutes, 20 volunteers played Tetris for 10 minutes, while 20 others play Pub Quiz for 10 minutes. As many as 20 other volunteers were asked to not do anything.
Evidently, those who play the Tetris experience flashbacks of bad memories that are much lower than those who do not do anything. Meanwhile, they are asked to play Pub Quiz game actually experiencing flashbacks are much more frequent.
When the waiting period was extended to 4 hours, those who play the Tetris experience flashbacks are much lower. Even so, in each test, the entire group is still able to remember specific details of the film that aired.
"Playing Tetris can reduce flashback memory type without removing the ability to recall the incident and proved that not all computer games offer a positive side-effects like this,"
"Several other games are even worse effect on people around the handling of traumatic memories,"

The research team believes that recognize the shape and shift the various color blocks in the Tetris compete to use the same communication channels with traumatic memories in the brain. Consequently, the flashbacks from the pictures reduced.
As if playing the game that answers common questions such as the Pub Quiz trigger flashbacks even the bad memories came back. Scientists believe that the verbal-based computer games trigger a visual memory in perceptual channels which then increases the emergence of the bad memory flashbacks.
