Many software runs in the background for no good reason thus making your computer work slow. Only anti viruses are supposed to be run all the time. So our first step will be to stop these programs from working when not needed. The performance benefit is high with a medium level. The main aim is to reduce the number of programs running during startup. Just follow these steps:
  • Press and hold down the Windows key.
  • Then press R. This will open the ‘run’ prompt.
  • Type msconfig and then click OK.
  • A system Configuration window will pop out.
  • Click on the ‘Start up’ Tab. This will show all the programs on the Windows.slow-pc
  • If the box is checked, then the it means that the program was run.
  • Uncheck the following programs: Google Toolbar NotifierJuschedAcrotray, WinZip, Quick PickQttask andiTunes Helper.
  • These are some of the common items that are of no use to the RAM. Just uncheck them and click Apply.
  • Exit the window and restart your computer.
  • Make sure to disable as many items as possible.
Uninstall Unused Programs:

  • We install many items in our computer and hardly use them. These items take up the space of our hard drive and reduce the performance of our computer. We need to uninstall them by following few steps. The performance benefit is medium and easy.
    • Note down the programs you need to use.
    • Click Start and All Programs to see all the programs in your computer.
    • Then go to the Control Panel in the Start menu.
    • Under Programs, click ‘Uninstall a Program.’
    • Start uninstalling the programs you don’t need.

Clean out and organize your documents:

    my documents
The performance benefit is very little but its productivity is high. When we download a program, we dump it in the My Documents folder. By doing so, we pile up many files in the folder resulting in slow performance. Organize files, since it makes the search for a particular folder easy.

Clean out the system with CCleaner:

This is the most simplest of all other applications with a medium performance benefit. This application scans and cleans up all unnecessary files (like temporary internet files). It is completely safe. Follow the following steps:
    • Download the CCleaner application.
    • Install the program.
    • Then launch it from the Start Menu.
    • To clean the hard drive click ‘Run Cleaner’
    • To save any browser history, uncheck the box.
